At long last, we’ve done it.
We are thrilled to announce that we have found our Dr. Awesome! Tyler Yates, M.D., officially became the Brody Borlaug Distinguished Scholar of Pediatric Immunology at OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in August of 2019.
We are both amazed and humbled to see our vision become a reality in just eight years. But even more inspired by the experience Dr. Yates brings to the community and our OHSU Doernbecher family. This is a unique position that requires someone with enough ambition to start a new program from scratch and a deep understanding of the complexities of pediatric immunology.
Dr. Yates trained at Duke Children’s Hospital – one of the finest children’s hospitals in the country with an incredible reputation in immunology. He also had the opportunity to learn from the best in the field including Dr. Rebecca Hatcher Buckley, who some consider the mother of modern pediatric immunology. Dr. Yates comes highly recommended by many doctors at OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital. Dr. Eneida Nemecek, a trusted advocate for Brody, described Dr. Yates as extremely bright, enthusiastic, and thoughtful.
As part of Team Brody, you know the significance of this milestone for our family and the Foundation. While we will always wonder about the impact a Dr. Awesome could have had on Brody’s life, we are grateful to be able to fulfill a promise we made to our son and help other children and families in our community; providing them hope for a healthy future.
We know none of this would be possible without each of you. It’s a testament to the many volunteers, contributions and donations from Team Brody that made this possible. It is the best example of what can happen when people come together and rally around a cause. We are forever thankful to you for everything you have done to help us secure Brody’s legacy.
Our journey continues – funding the endowment to sustain it for the future becomes our primary focus. But we know that with Dr. Yates now on board, we believe that the best is yet to come for Team Brody and the children who will benefit from his expertise the most.
Today is a celebration that we share with you. Thank you for making a difference in our lives and the lives of so many others.
